The ‘Holy Grail’ of Canadian Whisky Awards 2007

As determined by the ‘Best of Whisky’ Panel

GOLD           Canadian Club ‘Limited Reserve’ 20 year

SILVER        Forty Creek ‘Barrel Select’

BRONZE   Forty Creek ‘Small Batch Reserve’

The separation of points between Gold and Silver and Bronze was very slight; so we might suggest the following: TRY.. THEM .. ALL !! ..

Our  Gold Place honour goes to CC20. This is very hard to find (mostly sold to the Japanese Market) but every once in a while this wonderful whisky becomes available elsewhere and if you see it, buy it or call us. Canadian Club is one of the most recognized names in the business but this rarity is purely the Top of the Class.

Our  Silver Place honour goes to ‘Forty Creek’ Barrel Select from a whisky maker who is winning numerous awards & accolades worldwide. The best news is that it is typically available and a moderately inexpensive elixir. Notes from Whisky Guru’ Michael Jackson said, “It is the richest-tasting Canadian whisky I have tasted” (whisky mag. iss#20). If you haven’t yet tried this whisky, give it a try and you’ll more than likely join the growing list of converts.

Our  Bronze Place honour goes to a soon to be available (albeit in limited quantity) whisky… The Forty Creek distillery will soon release this rare gem. It is sure to give you an indulgence of luxury. Only 6000 bottles of this Limited ‘small batch’ is available, so don’t delay if you happen to sight one. This is an ‘Especially Smooth’ and ‘Fully Complex’ whisky.  Note: 35 Canadian Whiskies were sampled by our panel and we did not include any single malt barley offerings (Glen Breton Rare), since this should be considered a separate category. The 4 panel judges narrowed choices to the Top 6. For the finals, we tasted blind. Each judges gave a score per sample and the original previous tasting average was given a vote (therefore 5 scores per sample) and the results are as noted above.

i.e crown royal etc.I just wish these were more widely available. That is the problem with most whiskies. They are regional”

Of course we didn’t get to see the final numbers but I thought the Wisers 18 was outstanding also.

Out of curiousity, has anyone tried the Canadian Club Founders Whisky? It was out two years ago when the Canadian Club 20 y.o was available at the LCBO. It came in a 1 L bottle. I have both and I find the Founder’s Whisky much more pleasant yet I have never seen anything about it. Has anyone else tried this? I am curious what other people think.
