thanks for you email Adam.

My grandfather is getting a little older and he has a few whisky bottles sitting
around unopened (I’m unsure of the names) and he is considering selling these
off or gifting them off, he has asked for my help trying to set a value. I
know very little about whisky, and its values and came to your site seeking
information. Do you have any information about grades of whisky, what makes a
good Scots Whisky, and what a person should avoid? I’m of the opinion that my
grandfather should gift out some of the bottles to family members, and sell the
lesser quality brands.
THANKS!

Hello Adam;
It seems your Grandfather has a “good” problem as he has these unopened bottles of whisky.
Obviously the names will help, but failing that, here may be a few guidelines.
Typically, as there are always exceptions.
Your most valued Whiskies are:
Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- Usually the older the bottling (once bottled, the additional years in a bottle does not increase the value)
- Cask Strength Whisky is usually pretty valuable.
- Islay Whisky’s (region of Scotland) are always popular
Blended Scotch Whisky
- you can have quite the range here as well
Just using Johnnie Walker as the example.
Johnnie Walker Blue $$$$
Johnnie Walker Gold $$$
Johnnie Walker Green $$
Johnnie Walker Black $$
Johnnie Walker Red $

If you get the names, do not hesitate to send them to ‘BestofWhisky’
We are happy to assist.

p.s. I think the gift idea is ideal

I’m new to this, and you may be able to tell by what I type on these pages. I had the pleaseure of tasting a 30 yr bottle of Balvenie at a pub like tavern in Windsor. Simple the best taste that has crossed my tongue in quite some time. My apologies if I have written outside of the Whisky code of conduct.
