OK Already!!.. After numerous requests about what foods to pair with your whisky, whiskey, scotch, or malt.. we decided to put some recommendations together. From trial and error, reading and more trial and error I humbly submit the list.  First however note the following disclaimer: some foods are best paired with specific whiskies because as we are well aware; whisky comes in many varieties and styles that surpass the range of most other beverages. The same ensues with wine and food pairing suggestions. More specific whisky brand and food recommendations shall be a more exhausted, extensive list for another time. Now for the purpose of commencing, a ‘general’ benchmark listing follows:

FIRST THE LIST; THEN AN EXAMPLE TASTING NIGHT

Spices

Black pepper

Allspice

Ginger

Garlic

Curry powder

SPECIAL NOTE:

Stay away from HOT SPICY FOODS like Salsa, Hot Peppers, Wasabi, Horseradish, Tabasco..

Spicy Works But HEAT DOESN’T !! Stay away from anything that puts a burn on your tongue.

PS: Don’t over-analyze this list, and don’t try too many in combinations. Remember to keep the foods simpler rather than too complex because intricate combinations could initiate the prospect for flavours to clash. Use these as a guideline, experiment and enjoy.

Now let’s look at an example for a tasting night:

Have fresh clean filtered or distilled water always on hand.

Also: Have a pot of brewed ‘Black Coffee’ on hand (to neutralize in between tastes)

For The Foods

Water crackers and Asiago cheese

Tomato-Herb Bruschetta

Slices of Apple

Chocolate Chip Cookies or Dark Chocolate Wafers

Foods with Whiskies are for social fares and tasting events.

If the tasting is a VERY SERIOUS AFFAIR (eg: performing professional-type ratings);

Sip water, then black coffee before every dram and rating.

In this case scenario; best hold off serving foods until all ratings are completed.

Note to All:

Keep trying and send us your submissions so we can compile the ‘Definitive List’.

Fudge-sicle????????? Come on Monk, we’re not 6 years old anymore. But you are probably right, the cold calms any burn while the chocolate flavour sets up for the next taste. A thinking mans drinker or is it a drinking mans thinker.

Markmaker..yes fudge-sicle..
I won’t go into the science of it (because I can’t).
However, I believe you are correct with your theory about the ‘cooling-calming-chocolate-readiness’ thing that comes from the thinker from drinker to thinker.
I drink ; therefore I think!

If I cannot find a Fudge-sicle, will a ‘bomb-pop’ do ?
How about a chocolate popsicle, or a drumbstick

All the research and it keeps coming back to the fudge-sicle..
OK SWITCH IT TO CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM.. and not just any ice cream try it with Baskin-Robbins ‘Dark Chocolate’
..and No! the chocolate popsicle is not acceptable (it imparts a tinny aftertaste.. kinda like ‘Lite Beer’ tinny) however the drumstick is good (vanilla ice cream\chocolate\nuts)
as for bomb pop? not familiar but sounds like a No Go
