Whisky Trivia

WHISKY TRIVIA

Excerpt from The World Whisky Guide by Jim Murray
(during the time of the U.S. Prohibition).. Canadian whisky had never been so popular. Indeed, it was the theft by a rival gang of a shipment of Canadian Whisky, originally destined for Al Capone via the Detroit river, that led to the St. Valentines Day Massacre in 1929.
..more than a touch of irony in the fact that, for its first 100 years, the gentlest of the worlds whiskies should have inadvertently been linked with so much violence. And the Canadians reckon their whisky doesnt have a history!

..Yes, sometimes it takes insight from another country to point out Canada to Canadians.

I hae a bottle of 1953 Grand Award 15 year old Distinguished Canadian Whiskey unopened and still in the box and a bottle of 1962 Seagrams Crown Royal still int he box. I was wandering if you knew a little bit about them as far as value and whether or not they should be drank.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Where does one “find” a bottle of this stuff?? If you are looking for a value you might try Whisky Magazine.

I too have a bottle of Grand Award 15 year old Imported Distinguished Canadian Whiskey, still sealed with the US Internal Revenue Tax Paid # still sealed and the Excise # seal still sealed. From 1956. Any value?
I also have a Seagrams V.O. Canadian Whiskey bottle (1 Qrt.) from 1966, still sealed the same way
And 2 bottles of Canadian Club Blended Canadian Whiskey, one from 1966 and the other from 1973. Both sealed the same way.
Do any of these have any value or can you send me in the right direction to find out from somewhere else. I don’t want to open them if they have value, although it is very tempting….

I have one 750 ml bottle of Seagrams VO dated 1973, in the original Christmas box (box has been opened to see the date). The bottle is still sealed. Is there any interest/value in this item?

I have two bottles of Grand Award, 15 yr old whisky dated 1951, both in their original felt-lined boxes. Looks pretty and old. If it was 15 in 1951, that makes it 74 years old now…
If you are interested, make me an offer - quick before I drink them.

Whisky does not age once it is bottled (at least in maturity)

I feel I need to say, that the enjoyment that is derived from sharing the nectar encased in the bottles; that many of you think are of great value, with good friends will never equal the satisfaction of the possible monetary award. Something to think about.
