Companies Ramp Up Scotch Whisky Production
…well, most of us probably are not suprised by this article. The world has a thirst on for whisky… I say Cheers to that !
As more and more people around the world discover the pleasure of Scotch whisky, Scottish distilleries are struggling to keep up with demand. The Macallan has seen sales double in the last five years and Edrington, their parent company, has just announced a £40m expansion of its Macallan distillery in an effort to keep up with demand for the single malt. The move is the largest single investment in the company’s 150-year history and will add more than 30% to the total output of The Macallan.
Edrington isn’t the only one planning for Scotch whisky’s bright future, Pernod Ricard is expanding the Glenlivet distillery and Diageo will invest more than £100 million in the sector. All of these companies seem to be betting on the fact that currently whisky consumption in India, China and Russia is on the rise. Where once American tastes defined the success of a company now the growing economic markets are the areas of focus.
