The LCBO is currently running a very impressive promotion where they introduce customers to “the makers” of our favorite spirits and beers.  As we continue to feature some of the makers;

Today let’s meet:

David Stewart, Master Blender and Malt Master

Glennfiddich Single Mald Scotch Whisky

In today’s vernacular, David Stewart would be considered ‘old school’.  This man has dedicated his entire 45-year career t perfecting the practice of creating superlative whiskies.  Prior to his appointment as Malt Master for William Grant & Sons in 1974, David undertook a 12-year apprenticeship to learn the skills around nosing and blending fine Scotch whisky.  He has since translate those formidable talents into creating a range of award-winning single malts and blends, including the worlds  first single malt to be finished in different woods and introducing the innovative Solera maturation process to Glenfiddich 15 year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Meet the Makers…

The LCBO is currently running a very impressive promotion where they introduce customers to “the makers” of our favorite spirits and beers.  If you are lucky enough to locate a Liquor Control Board of Ontario store, you can pick up a nice placard detailing these people and their accomplishments.  Knowing that most of you will not be able to visit, we will publish those here.

Today we feature Jeff Arnett, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller

Jeff Arnett greets every day with the expectations of millions resting on his shoulders – the expectation that he’ll still produce the world’s most famous

Tennessee whiskey to its exacting standards.  That’s because Jeff is entrusted with making sure the supplies of Jack Daniel’s continue to flow from this legendary

Lynchburg, Tennessee distillery.  As the seventh person to ever hold the title of Master Distiller in this renowned company for Jack Daniel’s (it bears pointing out, that’s since the mid 1850’s), he oversees the entire whiskey-making process of milling, yeasting, fermentation, distillation, charcoal mellowing and maturation.  It’s a great responsibility, but Jeff’s got millions of reason to embrace the traditions and share the success.

Berry Bros & Rudd release a Michael Jackson Whisky

Together with Berry Bros & Rudd’s spirits manager Doug McIvor, Whisky Magazine has created a unique blend using all the opened bottles from Michael Jackson’s extensive collection, yielding 1000 bottles. Some of the Whisky used in this blend is truly stunning and has made for a Scotch of great distinction.

The Michael Jackson blend was made available for the first time at Whisky Live London and is a true testament to the great man. A proportion of the proceeds will go to the Parkinson’s Society.

This Whisky is as unique as the great man himself. It will never be repeated, so this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to drink a slice of history and at the same time give a little to a very worthwhile cause.

This exquisite blend gives aromas of apples, custard cream and orange peel with lurking spice and delicate whiffs of smoke. The nose-feel is smooth and round. The palate is succulent and balanced with some toffee, sherry notes and juicy oak. A kick of spice bursts through to stimulate the end palate revealing a long, complex and mellow finale.

I’ve had fun visiting this high quality interactive website.

…ok, it is a Diageo site, so I guess that may help explain the high quality. They have invested a good amount of time and money into the site itself.

I find it a very good site to rate and try new dring recipes
