…from The Windsor Star…

Taking over production of 350,000 cases of Gibson’s whiskey is not expected to lead to any additional jobs at Windsor’s Hiram Walker distillery but it should help solidify the future of the company’s current workforce, said a spokeswoman for the distillery.

John Swan, a spokesman for Gibson’s, said the whiskey is currently being produced at a distillery in Valleyfield, Que. but that plant is being sold and “we simply needed to find an alternative production facility.

“We looked across Canada and finally decided that Walker’s experienced workforce and its long history of producing Canadian whiskey was a perfect fit for Gibson’s,” said Swan.

Full production is expected to begin in January. The whiskey will mature and be stored at the company’s Lakeshore warehouses.

Other products produced at Walker’s include Canadian Club, Malibu rum, Wiser’s whiskey, Polar Ice vodka, Lamb’s Rum, McGuiness White rum, Red Tassel vodka, Deabonne brandy, Meagher’s 1878, Silk Tassel, Royal Reserve, Black Diamond rum, Grand Duke vodka and Barclay brandy.

A formal announcement will be made Friday

countryside are the sounds of prosperity. “As long as you see work going on — and the construction, and increasing your size — you know your business is doing well,” said Russell, who started working for the bourbon-maker in 1954. Distillers are expanding their bourbon production and storage and are dispatching sales teams around the world, bullish for a traditionally Southern beverage gaining popularity worldwide. Surging exports, the weak U.S. dollar and rising popularity among younger Americans are driving the boom.”It’s an exciting time to be in the bourbon business,” said Max L. Shapira, president of Heaven Hill Distilleries Inc., a family-owned liquor company in Bardstown, Ky. “Most of the time that I’ve been in the business — up until about the last 10 years — everybody was trying to consign the bourbon category to that great liquor store in the sky.”
