… Many consumers around the world find the range and types of Scotch whisky daunting and confusing, relative to other drink categories.
The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) has made an effort to help limit consumer confusion in the labelling of Scotch whisky, but unfortunately a key aspect of their proposal will make matters far worse.
The SWA has proposed that the UK government pass a law that would change the language of the category, and specifically to prohibit the terms “vatted malt” and “pure malt” to describe a whisky made of a blend of single malt whiskies. The SWA’s proposed term to replace these is “blended malt Scotch whisky.”
In the confident view of those of us who have signed this petition, the term “blended malt Scotch whisky” would be bad for the industry….
editors note:
Our postiong here at BestofWhisky is to support this petition to stop the U.K. from forcing all vatted malts to label themselves as “Blended Malt Scotch Whisky”
If you feel the same, you may open the online petition below.

… reminder about the Makers Mark sponsered “Thoroughbreds and Redheads”
On Friday, April 11th we’ll mark the 12th running of the Maker’s Mark Mile - the big news? This year our race is a bona-fine Grade 1 Stakes race (for all you horsemen and women out there, you know this is a pretty big deal!)
Later that night, we’ll take over downtown Lexington once again for our Friday night party. We’ll be in the same spot this year, the corner of Broadway and west Maxwell. This event is one not to miss!
Now, I know this all sounds like too much fun, but the best part of the weekend is yet to come and should be the biggest news out of Loretto since prohibition! On Saturday, April 12th, we’ll have tapped the first Ambassador barrels for our very first Ambassadors!

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Jimmy Bedford is looking forward to buying a Harley, kicking back, and taking it easy when he retires in three weeks after 40 years of making Tennessee sippin’ whiskey in the hollows of Moore County. He’s no backwoods bootlegger, though.
Bedford is the sixth master distiller in the history of the Jack Daniel Distillery, founded in 1866 by its namesake who started the business at the age of 16.
